How to submit podcast to iTunes in Podbean account

Posted by faq on 10th December 2006

It is easy to submit your podcast to the iTunes music store when using the Podbean.com podcast hosting service. Podbean.com has built-in iTunes RSS feed generating and podcast setting mechanism.

Podcasting on iTunes takes several steps:

  1. Create your first episode, which can be an audio recording, video, or even a text document. Supported file formats include .mp3, .mp4, .mov, and .pdf.
  2. Posting your episode file(s) to your podbean.com site.
  3. An RSS feed (an XML file) will be automatically generated for you. This RSS feed -
    1. conforms to the RSS 2.0 specification
    2. includes the recommended iTunes RSS tags,
    3. contains pointers to your episode.
  4. The RSS file is automatically posted on your Podbean.com site and can be reached by clicking at sidebar Feed section.
  5. Submitting the URL for your RSS feed to iTunes.
    1. Launch iTunes.
    2. Click ‘Music Store’ in the left navigation column and enter the Music Store page.
    3. Once on the Music Store page and in the left navigation column, click on the podcasts link to go to the podcasts page.
    4. In the left column of the Podcasts page, click on the ‘Submit a Podcast link’ button.
    5. Follow the instructions on the Submit a Podcast page.

Note - you will need a valid iTunes account, and you will need to be logged into iTunes. If you are not logged in, iTunes will prompt you to do so before accepting your submission. By requiring you to log in, iTunes increases the likelihood of valid contact information for each submission and your credit card will not be charged for submission of a podcast.

Since podbean.com has created an RSS feed with all of the recommended iTunes tags, you will see a summary page immediately after you submit your feed URL. If you have not included <language>, <itunes:category>, and <itunes:explicit> tags in your feed, you will see a second screen prompting you for this information. Please note - you can change this information at a later date by changing the tags in your Podbean.com account at ‘Settings’ – ‘iTunes/Advance’ section. Your RSS feed is considered the current and most authoritative source of information about your podcast.
